Framed Silhouette Portrait

£20.00

Silhouettes became popular in the late 18th and early 19th century as a cheaper alternative to a painted portrait. The artist used small hand scissors to cut out a sitter’s portrait, often largely in one cut.

I believe this one actually dates to the early 1920s or 1930s, potentially 1928, going by the rough signature on it. Signed R. Easton, I believe this could be done by Robert Easton, who was filmed doing a silhouette by British Pathé in 1936, viewable on YouTube.

18.5cm wide and 23.5cm tall including frame.
